Worlds Within Worlds
As Above, So Below begins with a recognition of scale. We live upon the Earth, yet the Earth is part of a solar system. That solar system exists within the Milky Way, and the Milky Way is one galaxy among an immense multitude of galaxies extending into the observable cosmos. The artwork invites us to contemplate our place within this extraordinary unfolding of worlds within worlds.
The ancient phrase “as above, so below” becomes, within the symbolism of this creation, an invitation to recognize relationship and belonging across different scales of existence. What we experience as our immediate world is not separate from the greater cosmos. Earth, humanity, stars, and galaxies all exist within the same vast reality.
As the imagination moves outward — from Earth to the solar system, from the solar system to the galaxy, and from the galaxy toward an ever-greater cosmic expanse — ordinary ideas of beginning and ending become difficult to hold. The artwork uses this movement to contemplate infinity: a presence beyond the boundaries of individual form, inviting wonder at a cosmos whose ultimate extent and origin remain profound mysteries.
